Shiva Temple, Taxila

A pre-partition Shiva temple is located in the heart of the ancient city of Taxila in district Rawalpindi. The temple was built by a lady Ram Rakhi in the loving memory of her late husband, Bhagat Lal Chand in 1933. The condition of temple is not good and is encroached by locals. The archaelogy department has not shown any interest in its restoration. Resultantly, the building of temple is in a state of abandonment due to severe neglect. Hindus made up a significant portion of Taxila's population before the country was split in two, but now everyone who was living there has moved to India. These formerly majestic temples were abandoned by the Hindu community when they left, and are now in a deplorable state due to encroachment by Muslim refugees from India.
